Clean Core Research is a Canadian federally incorporated not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting communities, workers, and first responders as clean energy technologies become part of everyday life.

We conduct independent research, destructive testing, and training on lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen systems, and emerging energy technologies. Our work produces open, unbiased safety data that supports emergency response, informs public policy, and helps communities safely adopt clean energy at scale.

As a not-for-profit, our independent, evidence-based work is conducted in the public interest and shared to advance public safety standards across the sector.

Research Focus

Priority Areas Driving Our Work

Clean energy is the future, but the speed of innovation is outpacing the safety systems designed to support it. Clean Core Research was created to address that gap. We collaborate with industry, academia, and government to answer the most urgent safety and sustainability questions in clean energy.

Our work focuses on the emerging risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen systems, energy storage, electric transportation, and other clean energy technologies. These technologies are transforming how we live, work, move, and power critical infrastructure, but they also create new challenges for emergency responders, regulators, industry, insurers, investigators, and communities.
